West Village, New York
One clinician for the medication and the therapy.
Most psychiatric care is split in two: a prescriber you see for fifteen minutes and a therapist you see for fifty. Both hold half the picture. Here, the person who prescribes is the person who knows why.
New York patients are seen directly — call or email to schedule. California and Florida book through Grow Therapy.

What you are actually buying
The usual arrangement is two clinicians: a psychiatrist who prescribes and a therapist who does the talking. Each holds half of the picture, and the half they hold is the one you told them. Consolidating both into one standing appointment is the concrete thing a self-pay fee buys here.
The first appointment is a full evaluation — history, what brought you in, what has and has not worked before — and it ends with a plan you have heard out loud. If medication is part of it, that conversation happens in the same room as the therapy, with one person who has the whole history.

I've been seeing Jose, the head of this practice, for CBT and talk therapy for the past three years. Our work together has completely transformed myself and my life. I can't imagine having progressed this far without his professional, caring, and intelligent support.
I highly recommend Jose for therapy. I came to Jose for individual therapy and the experience far surpassed my expectations. We talked about the concern that brought me to therapy, and Jose helped me with tools and insights. In a few weeks, I was feeling better and seeing positive changes in my life.
He helped me navigate that time with his expertise by reframing my experiences through therapy, managing my Seasonal Affective Disorder with medication, and serving as the professional confidant that gave me tools I still use on the daily. Highly recommend this brilliant therapist.
Dr. Jose Ruiz helped me and my husband through our marital problems over the past five years and always made sure to stay unbiased, supportive, and genuinely present. He truly felt like family.

About Jose Ruiz
My goal is to help patients reach parts of themselves they haven't been able to access before. That begins with building trust, then moves into your history, family dynamics, relational patterns, and self-image. Therapy isn't always easy — it can be uncomfortable — but with time that discomfort gives way to growth.
My approach is eclectic and grounded in evidence-based research. I draw on several frameworks depending on what the person in front of me needs, rather than fitting everyone to one.
Who I work with
Much of my practice is professionals in high-performance industries — film, television, sports, and entertainment, as well as tech and finance. I understand the pressures these fields bring and tailor my approach accordingly. Patients come to me with anxiety, depression, anger management, relationship and intimacy concerns, social skills, and professional performance.
I also see couples, children and adolescents from 6 to 17, and adults and families from diverse cultural, ethnic, and LGBTQ+ backgrounds. Hablamos Español.
Who this is not for
If you are looking for a fifteen-minute medication check, or a prescription without the conversation around it, this is not the right practice — and I would rather say so here than at the end of a first appointment you paid for. Evaluation, prescribing, and the therapy are one relationship on one calendar. That is the whole proposition, and it is what the fee is for.
